Baseline Climate - Days of snow (annual average)

Days of Snow – Annual Average
The snow record is measured as the amount of snow lying on the ground at 09:00 hours each day.

The number of days with snow lying appears to be influenced by both altitude and proximity to the coast. Colder values and increased rainfall are associated with increased altitude. This is the combination of weather parameters that leads to snowfall.

The upland areas of the North York Moors experience the greatest amounts of snowfall (with 24 to 35 days of snow lying per year), with the inland and coastal areas the least.
