Sunshine Duration – Annual Average
Sunshine averages are derived from the average of daily durations in hours per day. The uplift of air caused by an increase in altitude encourages cloud formation and will hence decrease the sunshine duration.
Sunshine duration appears to be mainly linked to altitude, with durations reducing with progressive movement inland. The coast has the longest duration of sunshine, with approximately 1541 to 1885 hours annually, with the lowest recorded values in the uplands in the region of 1141 to 1240 hours averaged annually.
