Spring Average Percentage Change in Soil Moisture
Changes in soil moisture content are similar over the whole region during the spring. The smallest increases are in upland areas of the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire Moors and towards the coast at around 1%. Those greater decreases are in the South and West Yorkshire at 1.5%.
Summer Average Percentage Change in Soil Moisture
Yorkshire and Humber as a whole have a decrease in soil moisture content of around 19%. The Yorkshire Dales area stands alone with a decrease in moisture content of 12%.
Autumn Average Percentage Change in Soil Moisture
As with summer, the majority of the region records a soil moisture content decrease of approximately 20%. This is significantly different to that in the Yorkshire Dales where a 10% decrease is held.
Winter Average Percentage Change in Soil Moisture
Winter soil moisture contents are quite considerably lower than those in the summer and autumn. The change in soil moisture contents decreases by 2.5% for the majority of the region. The Yorkshire Dales has a lower with a 1% decrease in soil moisture content recorded.
