This study was carried out at the regional and sectoral (thematic) levels. Although there are a large number of similarities between different areas, not all impacts and adaptations are relevant everywhere. Within the sectoral assessments both impacts and adaptation measures are therefore also reported at the sub-regional scale.
The documents available from this page distill findings of the report down to Local Authority areas. Twenty-two areas are covered. Within each report some of the key modelling outputs for that area are presented together with some of the more notable impacts and adaptations relevant to that district. These are set out using the same ‘sector’ headings as the main report.
These pages are not however intended to be read in isolation. Whilst they point to some of the key local issues, wider sub-regional, regional, and sectoral issues still apply. Those carrying out local assessments of the impacts of climate change are urged to consider the wider impacts addressed within the full report.
Furthermore the climate model employed in the study (EARWIG) produces over 75 different parameters. Those chosen for a particular authority should also not be viewed in isolation. Whilst different parameters may be highlighted for neighbouring or nearby authorities, similar changes will apply, especially where both draw upon information from the same EARWIG cell.
There is a broad range of activity within local authorities in the region. Some authorities are driving forward climate change adaptation assessments and action, aligned with National Indicator 188: Planning to Adapt to Climate Change, and are already carrying out local climate change impacts profiles (LCLIPs). Others may be beginning to understand the nature of climate change impacts on their area. These downloadable summaries are not intended to replace an LCLIP, nor to be comprehensive at the local level. However we hope that they will be of interest as a development point for those thinking about what climate change will mean for their services - and for businesses and other sectors operating within their areas – and how to respond, or for encouraging wider understanding and consideration of future change.
