Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
An international organisation consisting of scientists and Governments which produces a series of major assessment reports into climate change (covering the science, adaptation and mitigation). Through the website you can access reports, images, presentations and other material.
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
Through the UNEP website you can link to a useful series of climate related graphics, maps and images.
Met Office
The primary source of scientific information on climate change in the UK. This website includes factsheets, publications and lots of useful charts and graphics.
United Kingdom Climate Impacts Programme (UKCIP)
UKCIP provides scenarios that show how our climate might change and co-ordinates research on dealing with our future climate. This information is shared, free of charge, via this website with organisations in the commercial and public sectors to help them prepare for the impacts of climate change.
Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)
The lead Government department in the UK for tackling climate change. This website contains links to Government reports, legislation, research and related areas. This website provides topical news on climate change.
Environment Agency
The leading public body for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales and ensuring that air, land and water are looked after by everyone in today's society, so that tomorrow's generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world. This website provides information on the science and impacts of climate change.
Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research
The Tyndall Centre brings together scientists, economists, engineers and social scientists, who together are working to develop sustainable responses to climate change through trans-disciplinary research and dialogue on both a national and international level. This website contains latest research outputs relating to climate change
Department of Energy and Climate Change
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) was created in October 2008, bringing together energy policy (previously with BERR - the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform) with climate change mitigation policy (previously with Defra - the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs).
DECC exists to tackle the unprecedented challenges to our environment, our economy, and the future security of our energy supplies – and recognises that the decisions we make now will affect the planet and our way of life for generations to come. The creation of DECC reflects the fact that climate change and energy policies are inextricably linked – two thirds of our emissions come from the energy we use. Decisions in one field cannot be made without considering the impacts in the other.
Office of Climate Change
The Office of Climate Change (OCC) works across Government to support analytical work on climate change and the development of climate change policy and strategy.
UKCIP Adaptation Wizard
The website includes some guidance documentation of identifying adaptation options, a database of practical examples of adaptation across the UK, and a number of 'tools' to help organisations understand the impacts of climate change
Adapting to Climate Change: A Checklist for Development - Guidance for Designing Developments in a Changing Climate
This report contains a checklist and guidance for new developments to adapt to climate change and is primarily aimed at developers and their design teams, architects, surveyors and engineers.
Adapting to Climate Change: A Case Study Companion to the Checklist for Development
This document accompanies the above report and contains many case studies of adaptation in the design of new buildings and infrastructure.
Your Home in a Changing Climate
This report from the Three Regions Climate Change Group makes the case for adapting existing homes to ensure they are livable and comfortable in a changing climate. It specifically looks at the issues of flooding, water stress and overheating and incorporates a case study house for each.
National Indicator 188
Planning to Adapt to Climate Change. This government indicator is intended to be used to measure and monitor local authorities' progress in assessing the risks and opportunities associated with climate change, and taking appropriate actions as prioritised in an adaptation strategy, across their services, plans, estates and communities.
The Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change
A declaration by Local Authorities to pledge to actively tackle climate change work with others to reduce emissions country-wide.
Draft Climate Change Bill
The Climate Change Bill will introduce a clear, credible, long-term framework for the UK to achieve its goals of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and ensure steps are taken towards adapting to the impacts of climate change.
The Carbon Trust
The Carbon Trust supports the development of low carbon technologies, and helps business and the public sector cut carbon emissions.
Energy Saving Trust
A non-profit organisation, funded both by government and the private sector that is one of the UK's leading organisations set up to address the damaging effects of climate change by cutting emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and by promoting the sustainable and efficient use of energy.
