The Yorkshire and Humber region extends from the Pennines in the west to the North Sea in the east and encompasses extensive rural and urban areas, including the towns or cities of Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington, Kingston-upon-Hull, Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley, Leeds, Bradford, York, Northallerton, Harrogate, Tadcaster, Hambleton and Horton-in-Ribblesdale.
The region can conveniently be sub-divided into four sub-regions:
- North Yorkshire
- South Yorkshire
- West Yorkshire
- Humberside
The region is also presently split into 22 local authority districts, boroughs or counties (including North Yorkshire County, which is almost identical to the North Yorkshire sub-region except for the exclusion of York City which is a unitary authority).
We recognise that some readers of this website may require a summary of the key climate changes, impacts and adaptation approaches across the region as a whole for purposes of a high-level overview. This information can be found at the Regional scale of reporting.
Other readers may wish to focus on county-wide issues for purposes of strategic planning, for example. This information can be found at the Sub-regional scale of reporting.
For those readers requiring an approached focused more on the key issues within a local authority scale, this information can be found at the Local Detail scale of reporting.
