Welcome to the homepage of the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Change Adaptation study.
This study provides information on:
- the projected climate changes that the region will face by the 2050s;
- how these climate changes will impact on the region’s society, buildings, infrastructure, biodiversity, public services, businesses and key economic assets; and
- what needs to be done by organisations now to adapt to these predicted impacts and make the region more robust to the projected climate changes.
Climate change is a reality that affects us all and its implications are profoundly important for the Yorkshire and Humber region. These implications will become more severe over time and we all need to start to adapt our vulnerable systems, assets, services and management approaches to this challenge now, both individually and collectively.
This study has unique qualities that can be applied to the Yorkshire and Humber region to help organisations understand and adapt to the implications faced by climate change. These qualities include:
- coverage of an entire UK government region;
- projections of climate change at a new and improved scale of resolution compared to previous projections;
- application of cutting-edge research and state-of-the-art expertise from nationally-recognised professional engineers and scientists;
- practical experience of staff working ‘on-the-ground’ within a range of organisations and bodies across the region;
- consideration of impacts across a wide range of different sectors; and
- provision of practical advice on adaptation measures.
It is intended that this study provides a catalyst and focus for adaptation action across all sectors – public, business and voluntary – throughout the region.
We hope you enjoy your visit and find it informative and thought-provoking.
